ZB Old News

We managed to save some old bits. We sure lost some along the way though, seemingly for the entire year of 2009 and most of 2008 too! Our excuse is that it was an unintentional byproduct of the latest site redesign? We promise to do a better job saving them and bringing some order.

MCGUINN'S 1/23 GIG RECAP

First and always, thanks to those who made the trek to McGuinn's on a very chilly night. There was a solid crowd filled with friends, fans, and even family! The three bands for the night, ZB, Rebel Pawn, and the Van Cleef, put on strong sets. There was even some dancing, which you don't see enough at live shows these days.

Starting out the night was Rebel Pawn, who had an explosive set reminding me of Live at Leeds era Who. Real swell dudes too. Then Zigman Bird did a firey set of their orginals and a couple of covers. Their cover of the Kink's "Victoria" went over like Balls Marie! They also introduced a newer original "Sunday School". Rounding out the night was the Van Cleef. Such a smooth robust sound does the Van Cleef have. It was quite an entertaining night of music. Thanks to our friend Ray Segara for taking these pics:

THE HARLEY SHOW

Harley Pic

ZB bit the bullet and played three sets of classic rock mixed in with their own 'classic' originals to a receptive Harley-Davidson audience at Williams Harley-Davidson in Lebanon, NJ this past Saturday. Luckily there were no technical malfunctions, no heatstroke, and best of all--NO RAIN!. The Harley staff were extremely cool and we also had the pleasure to see many familiar faces in the crowd-(you know who you are...). Thanks to all the folks who signed our mailing list and bought CD's. A great BIG THANK YOU goes out to John Gray for his pro sound help and expertise. Thank you friend. Later in the evening ZB regrouped at KC's Corner in South Plainfield to take part in their awesome BandFest 2! What a blast! Great bands, plenty of people and an incredible all around great/happy vibe. Gotta check out this place, folks. Again - thank you to all who signed our list and bought CD's. Many thanks to Lenny who ran the event with a pro staff backing him up.

GEOFF ALPAUGH ON DRUM THRONE

Zigman Bird has been rehearsing with new drummer, Geoff Alpaugh, for the past five or six weeks and the results are nothing less than fantastic. He used to play with the Number Theory and currently plays in Down with the Wizard. We put a lot of pressure on Geoff and he's taken on the task of ZB drummer quite well. Thanks Geoff!! So make sure you take a ZB show in soon to check out the new groove in formation. Dupree pic

THE NEW ALBUM

Having completed the actual recording, Zigman Bird is in the final stages of the artwork layout and will be ready for production shortly. The album's called Balls Marie. It has nine new tracks, recorded in former drummer Bill's basement mainly, as well as "Scrappy Fing" Lambert's basement, their former bassist, who engineered the album. The layout is being handled by Guapo Design. Check out the first single Don't Wake Up

THE NEW STUFF!

The band has been busily writing new material for the next album. It will likely be an ep of brand new stuff. Titles include "Angel", "Crazy", "Valentine Girl", and "Sunday School". So far, it's quite diferent than its predecessor and has quite a varied style

LUMP'N'LOAF RECORDS

As the brain child of Zigman Bird bassist Damian Gonzalez,Lump'N'Loaf Records was founded with one mission in mind - to cast a spotlight on cutting-edge and eclectic music that has been born out of the highly talented, yet relatively unknown central New Jersey music scene. L'N'L will continue to wave its' middle finger at the popular, cookie-cutter record industry by striving to offer a true alternative to music listening and social commentary. Everyone's excited about the recently created The Antaris, consisting of former members of Trio of Madness and The Number Theory. They played their first show at Buddie's a couple weeks back and it showed they're off to a great start. Find out more about L'N'L records here.
